The Variegated Whale Fin Sansevieria (Sansevieria masoniana) is a rarer take on the sculptural Whale Fin snake plant. It has wide, paddle-shaped leaves with striking variegation in shades of green and cream, and the blend of colours becomes more defined when the plant receives adequate light. Each leaf grows upright in a broad, fan-like shape and can reach substantial size under ideal conditions, making it a bold focal point in an indoor setting.
This mildly toxic succulent is native to Africa and is grown mainly as an ornamental plant. Like the plain Whale Fin, it is a slow grower.
It thrives in bright, indirect light but can handle lower light. Never expose it to harsh direct sun, as the broad, variegated leaves can scorch. Avoid strong drafts and extreme temperature changes. Water sparingly, letting the top layer of soil dry slightly before each watering to avoid oversaturation. Choose a robust pot, wide rather than tall, with good drainage and a free-draining soil mix.
It is mildly toxic to cats and dogs if chewed, so keep it out of reach of pets.
Our snake plant care guide has more tips. Variegated plants are best divided, as leaf cuttings can lose their markings, but you can read about propagating from leaf cuttings for other varieties. Perth pickup or Australia-wide shipping available.

International orders are only able to be shipped if the whole order is shippable. If any items in the order are non-shippable, they will be removed and refunded, and the remainder will be shipped. We recognise that countries have varying quarantine restrictions and specific processes that may need to be adhered to relating to importing plants. We do not, however take responsibility for researching these restrictions and assume that the buyer is aware of these if they are applicable. We accept an order from another country as an indication by that buyer that the plants they have purchased are able to be shipped into that country, unless we are notified otherwise.
